This guide explains citations in plain words, shows where to list your business in Pakistan and gives a simple process to clean up wrong ones. It supports our local SEO service and our guide to ranking on Google Maps in Chiniot.
What Is NAP?
NAP stands for Name, Address, Phone. It is the core set of details about your business. Some people add website and hours.
Consistency means that these details are written the same way in every place. For example:
C-Scale Marketing
1st Floor, Dr. Sarfaraz Plaza, Dr. Aziz Ali Road, Chiniot 35400, Punjab
+92 317 7580330
If one site shows “Aziz Ali Rd” and another shows an old phone number, a search tool has to guess which is right. Small spelling differences are usually fine. Different phone numbers, old addresses and wrong names are the real problem.
Why Citations Matter
- They help Google trust your details. Matching information on many sites supports your profile.
- They help customers. People find you on whichever site they use.
- They help AI tools. Tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity read the web, and wrong details there can become wrong answers about you. See our AEO and GEO strategy.
- They give you more places to be found. Some people search on Bing, Facebook or Apple Maps, not Google.
Citations are not a magic ranking button. They are a base. Reviews, a good profile and a clear website do more. But wrong citations can hold you back.
Where to List Your Business in Pakistan
Start with the places that matter most. Then add others that fit your trade.
Priority 1: The big platforms
- Google Business Profile. The most important one. See our checklist.
- Bing Places. Powers Bing maps and results. It is free.
- Apple Business Connect. Shows your business in Apple Maps.
- Facebook page. Add address, phone, hours and website.
- Instagram business profile. Add contact buttons.
- LinkedIn company page. Good for service businesses.
Priority 2: Your own website
Put your name, address, phone and hours in text on your contact page, and in the footer. Add a map. Use the same format as everywhere else.
Priority 3: Directories and listing sites
Pakistan has business directories and local listing sites. Their quality varies, and some come and go. Choose ones that:
- Are used by real people in your trade or city
- Let you add your full details for free
- Look maintained, with recent updates
- Do not ask you to pay for a vague “ranking boost”
Do not sign up to dozens of random sites. A handful of good ones is better than a hundred poor ones.
Priority 4: Trade and industry listings
Look for pages specific to your trade. Furniture groups, restaurant guides, wedding planning sites, chambers of commerce and local news pages can all mention you. These matter more than random directories, because they connect your business to your trade.
Step by Step: Build and Clean Your Citations
1. Decide your master details
Write down your exact business name, address, phone, website and hours in one note. This is your master copy. Every listing must follow it.
2. Search for yourself
Search your business name, your phone number and your address on Google and Bing. Open every result. Note each place that lists you and what it says.
3. Make a simple sheet
Use a spreadsheet with columns for site, link, name, address, phone, website, hours and what to fix. This sheet is your tracker.
4. Fix the big ones first
Update Google, Bing, Apple, Facebook and your website. Then go to directories.
5. Claim or correct each listing
Most sites let you claim a listing and edit it. Some ask for a phone call or code to prove you own it. If you cannot edit a listing, use the site’s contact or report link to ask for a fix.
6. Remove duplicates
If the same business appears twice on one site, ask the site to merge or remove the extra one.
7. Add new ones slowly
Add a few good listings every month. Check them. Write each one in your sheet.
8. Review every six months
Businesses move, change phone numbers and change hours. Set a reminder. Open the sheet. Fix what changed.
Common Mistakes
- Using several phone numbers. Pick one main number.
- Changing your address format on each site. Copy from your master note.
- Leaving old addresses live. If you moved, update or remove the old listings.
- Paying for fake listing packages. Be careful with any offer that guarantees a ranking.
- Adding keywords to your name. Use your real business name.
- Making many profiles for one shop. One business, one listing per site.
- Forgetting hours for Eid or Ramadan.
Citations and Mentions Are Not the Same Thing
A citation lists your business details. A mention is when another site talks about you, such as a news story, a blog or a trade page, with or without your address. Both help. Citations make your details trusted. Mentions make your name known. We aim for both, and we never buy fake ones.
Example: A Furniture Workshop in Chiniot
A workshop has a Google profile with one phone number, a Facebook page with another and an old address on a directory. The fix is to choose one main number, correct every listing to match, claim the directory entry, and add the workshop to a few real trade pages. See furniture marketing in Chiniot. This improves clarity. It does not promise a ranking.
