This guide is for shop owners, workshop owners and managers in Chiniot. It uses plain words. You can do most of it yourself. If you would rather hand it over, see our local SEO service.
What “Ranking on Google Maps” Means
When someone in Chiniot searches “furniture shop near me” or “biryani in Chiniot”, Google often shows a map with three businesses above the normal results. This is called the local pack. The same businesses appear in the Google Maps app when someone searches there.
Being in that group of three is worth a lot. People call, message or get directions straight from it, often without ever visiting a website.
The Three Things Google Looks At
Google says local results are based mainly on three things.
| Factor | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | How well your profile matches what the person searched | Pick the right categories, list your services, write a clear description |
| Distance | How far you are from the person, or from the place they named | Make sure your pin and address are correct. You cannot move your shop |
| Prominence | How well known you are, online and offline | Earn reviews, get mentioned on other sites, keep a good website |
You cannot change distance. You can improve relevance and prominence. That is where the work is.
Step by Step
1. Claim and verify your profile
Search your business name on Google. If a profile exists, claim it. If not, create one. Google will ask you to verify that you run the business. Do not skip this. An unverified profile will not do well.
2. Choose the right main category
Your primary category is the strongest signal on your profile. Pick the one that says exactly what you are. A restaurant that sells biryani should choose the category that fits that, not a general one. Add secondary categories only if they are true. Look at the top three businesses in your trade and note what they chose.
3. Fill in every detail
Complete these fields:
- Business name, exactly as it appears on your sign
- Address and, if you serve customers at their location, your service area
- Phone number and website
- Opening hours, including special hours for Eid and other holidays
- Services or products, with short descriptions
- A short business description, written for people
Do not add keywords to your business name. Google can suspend profiles that do this. Use the name on your sign.
4. Keep your name, address and phone the same everywhere
Your details must match on your website, Facebook, Bing, directories and anywhere else you are listed. If one place says “Dr. Aziz Ali Road” and another says “Aziz Ali Rd”, that is a small problem. Different phone numbers or old addresses are a bigger one. Our guide to local citations in Pakistan shows how to check this.
5. Add real photos
Add photos of your shop front, inside, products, team and work. Use your own photos, not stock images. Add new ones every month. Customers also add photos, so a profile with only two old pictures looks neglected.
6. Earn reviews and reply to them
Reviews help prominence and help people decide. Ask every happy customer. Send them your review link on WhatsApp. Reply to every review, good or bad, in a calm and polite way. We cover this fully in how to get more Google reviews.
7. Post updates
Use Google Business Profile posts for offers, new items, events and news. Give offers a real end date. Posts show people your business is active.
8. Make your website match
Your profile should point to a website page that says the same thing. For a business with several services, link to the page that matches the profile. Put your address, hours and a map on the contact page. See our SEO services if you need help here.
9. Check your profile every month
Look at your Insights. See how many people searched for you, called you and asked for directions. Fix what is wrong. Update hours and photos.
Mistakes That Hurt Rankings
- A fake address or a virtual office. Google requires a real place or a clear service area. Fake addresses risk suspension.
- Keywords in the business name. Use the name on your sign.
- Wrong or too many categories. Choose the true main one.
- Buying reviews or offering rewards for them. Google forbids both. Reviews can be removed and your profile can be penalised.
- Review gating. Do not send only happy customers to Google and unhappy ones elsewhere. Google does not allow it.
- Duplicate profiles. One business, one profile per location.
- Old information. Wrong hours and closed-down details cost you customers.
- Ignoring bad reviews. A calm reply helps you more than silence.
How Long It Takes
Changes to a profile can show within days. A real change in ranking usually takes weeks to months, and depends on your trade, your area and your competitors. A new profile with no reviews cannot be expected to beat one with hundreds. Anyone who promises a number-one spot by a certain date is guessing.
Example: A Furniture Showroom in Chiniot
A showroom has a profile with the name, a wrong category and one photo. A better version would choose the correct main category, list services such as bed sets and dining tables, add forty real photos of finished pieces, state delivery areas, ask buyers for reviews that mention what they bought and reply to each review. These are the steps to take. We do not promise the result. See furniture marketing in Chiniot.
